Dragon capsule to spend extra day in space

BAJA, Calif., March 23 (UPI) — The SpaceX Dragon space capsule will stay at the International Space Station for an extra day due to poor weather conditions near its landing site, NASA said.

The capsule was scheduled to leave the ISS on Monday, but is now set to depart Tuesday because poor weather has been predicted near where it is supposed to land in the Pacific Ocean, Florida Today reported.

It is scheduled to be released from the ISS at 7:06 a.m. Tuesday and splash down around 12:36 p.m. in waters west of Baja, Calif., officials said.

NASA officials said the extra day in space will not affect the 2,700 pounds of equipment and science experiment samples Dragon is carrying back to Earth.

Dragon arrived at the ISS on March 3 to deliver about 1 ton of cargo to astronauts there.
