KANSAS CITY, Mo., March 16 (UPI) — Jeff Withey scored 17 points and hauled down nine rebounds Saturday, powering No. 6 Kansas over No. 12 Kansas State 70-54 for the Big 12 Tournament title.
Naadir Tharpe and Perry Ellis each scored 12 points for the Jayhawks (29-5), who racked up their 10th win in 11 games heading into the NCAA Tournament.
After settling for just a share of the regular-season conference title with the Wildcats — breaking a streak of four straight crowns — Kansas ran its record in tournament championship tilts to 9-0 with the one-sided triumph.
Kansas State (27-7) was led by Rodney McGruder with 18 points.
