NEW YORK – Former University of Iowa All-American Erik Sowinski set the American record today in the 600 meters when he crossed the finish line of the 2013 Millrose Games in 1:15.61. Sowinski bested the previous mark of 1:15.70, which was set less than one month ago by Duane Solomon, who finished second behind Sowinski in today’s race.
Sowinski is one of the most decorated sprinters in Iowa track and field history. He medaled at the 2012 NCAA indoor and outdoor championships, and is a six-time All-American. He currently holds school records in the indoor (1:47.62) and outdoor (1:45.90) 800 meters, the 3,200-meter relay (7:23.77), and the sprint medley relay (3:16.18).
