CANCUN, MEXICO -The Iowa Hawkeye basketball team improved to 5-0 for the first time since 2008 after beating Western Kentucky 63-55 Tuesday night in Cancun, Mexico in a ballroom at a 5 star resort in the semifinals of the Cancun Challenge.
Freshman point guard Mike Gesell lead Iowa with a season-high 19 points and Melsahn Basabe chipped in with a season-high 11 points, 8 of which came in the second half.
Iowa never trailed in the game.
Iowa improves to 18-0 the last 3 years when holding the opposition to 60 pts or less. They will face Wichita State Wednesday night in the championship game.
