Police arrested a third man Monday in connection with last Thursday’s Guaranty Bank robbery.
Cedar Rapids Police Sgt. Steve O’Konek said Christopher L. Lanehart, 24, of Clarence, was taken to the Linn County Jail on a second-degree robbery charge.
Details of his arrest were not released.
Two men were charged Friday with aiding and abetting in the robbery, according to the criminal complaints. Kevin Connor, 18, and Daniel Straw, 23, were charged with second-degree robbery and each remain in the Linn County Jail under a $25,000 cash or surety bond set Friday during initial appearances.
According to the criminal complaints, Connor and Straw admitted to helping another man, who was “casing” locations for a robbery. They initially considered U.S. Bank on Mt. Vernon Road SE, but decided the conditions “were not right.” The three then drove to a secluded area and parked near Guaranty Bank, 191 Jacolyn Dr. SW. Connor and Straw told police they waited in the car as the other man went inside and presented a “hold up” note and robbed the bank.
Connor and Straw told police they moved the car to a better position while the other man was inside and then both ran from the scene, leaving the car, when they saw police cars in the area, according to the complaints. The two men were captured by police after a foot chase.
Police said Thursday the man who entered the bank took an undisclosed amount of money before running north towards Jacolyn Park. Nobody was injured during the incident.
The unknown man was described as a 6-foot tall black man, who was wearing a gray sweatshirt, sunglasses and a ball cap, according to a police report.
