No time set for Rep. Jackson’s return to Congress

By Hal Dardick, Chicago Tribune –

CHICAGO — Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.’s wife, Sandi Jackson, on Thursday declined to say when her husband might return to Congress.

The Chicago Democrat has been on medical leave from the House for two months and is being treated at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., for what doctors there said was depression and gastrointestinal issues.

His wife, who is a Chicago alderman, met reporters Thursday and was asked when the congressmen would come back.

“At this point, we are taking every day one day at a time. But we here on the ground are preparing for his eventual return. We don’t know when that’s going to be, but we want his constituents to know that they are very much on his mind,” Sandi Jackson said.

Doctors are looking for the “right combination of medications,” she said.

The congressman had a duodenal switch for weight loss and has been “suffering from some stomach ailments for close to eight years,” she said. “They are looking at all of that. It’s not a simple situation.
