AMES, Iowa – Aug. 8, 2012 – The Iowa Department of Transportation held a public information meeting Thursday, April 5, to discuss proposed improvements to the U.S. 65/U.S. 69/Scotch Ridge Road intersection, which is located 2.5 miles south of the U.S. 65/U.S. 69/Iowa 5 interchange in Warren County.
The concept at that time was to close the U.S. 65/U.S. 69/Scotch Ridge Road intersection, extend Scotch Ridge Road along the east side of U.S. 65/U.S. 69 and construct a new intersection approximately 1600 feet south of the present one. In response to public comments, the project concept has been changed.
The revised concept provides for the existing intersection to remain open, in addition to the following proposed actions.
Construct an offset right-turn lane for northbound U.S. 65/U.S. 69 traffic at the Scotch Ridge Road intersection. This will give drivers on Scotch Ridge Road a less obstructed view of traffic on U.S. 65/U.S. 69.
Install sensors along U.S. 65/U.S. 69 that will visually alert drivers on Scotch Ridge Road of approaching traffic.
Reduce the posted speed limit on U.S. 65/U.S. 69 from 65 mph to 60 mph from just south of Dakota Street north to the Iowa 5 interchange.
The Iowa DOT is soliciting your comments concerning these proposed improvements.
