NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – July 17, 2012 – Road construction work on U.S. 218 near Janesville will require shifting southbound traffic onto one of the newly constructed southbound lanes beginning the week of July 23, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

Also at this time, the old southbound lanes of U.S. 218 will become a frontage road between Seventh Street/Marquis Road and Barrick Road. During this stage of construction, U.S. 218 traffic will not be able to enter or exit Janesville on Barrick Road.  Drivers on southbound U.S. 218 wanting to get to Barrick Road will need to continue south and exit at the traffic signals at Seventh Street/Marquis Road and travel north on the newly opened frontage road. Barrick Road traffic may also take the frontage road south to get on to U.S. 218 at Seventh Street/Marquis Road.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit, traffic signals, and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
