ISLAMABAD — At least nine trainee policemen were killed and eight injured Thursday when unknown gunmen on motorbikes stormed a hostel in eastern Pakistan, a police official said.
The attackers fired indiscriminately on the trainees while they were sleeping in Lahore, the provincial capital of the eastern province of Punjab, said Habib Urrehman, the head of the Punjab police.
A witness told the Dunya News channel that five or six gunmen on three motorbikes opened fire about 5 a.m.
No one claimed responsibility for the attack, but Islamist militants have been attacking security forces and civilians.
On Monday, gunmen raided a temporary army camp and killed seven security personnel, including six soldiers, in the eastern city of Gujrat, about 75 miles northwest of Lahore.
