Matt Peterson, Austin Daily Herald, Minn. –
A 40-year-old Austin man has pleaded not guilty after allegedly beating a woman during a March 11 church service.
Agwak Othow Omat, 40, pleaded not guilty Thursday to felony domestic assault.
Omat allegedly sat several rows behind the mother of his two children and several other children at Our Savior’s Lutheran in Austin and tried to remove his 4-year-old son from the service. The 4-year-old got upset, and the mother intervened. Omat then allegedly shoved the mother to the ground, punched her in the face and kicked her in the back before other churchgoers intervened, according to the court complaint.
Though Omat left the church, he later discovered that police were looking for him, called authorities and allowed them to arrest him at his home. Omat’s pretrial is set for Sept. 21.

does it really matter if it’s hie wife or the mother of his children .. it’s the lowest of the low when u go into a church and do this kind of crime
If they don’t know, then don’t mention it. I’d rather have incomplete news than wrong news. Of course, it’s a despicable crime. But that’s not an excuse to ignore the facts of the story.
Because headlines sell newspapers… ‘wife’ sounds worse if used in the headline, people more apt to stop and read it vs seeing phrase ‘mother of his children’… NOT agreeing with it, not to mention how tacky and sleezy papers can be juz to make a dime!!!
The headline says “wife” but the story only mentions “woman” and “the mother of his two children.” Why does the editor think they are married?
