MASON CITY – Mason City Firefighters, Local 41 Union thanked citizens of Mason City and North Iowa for their support during our recent Labor Day “Fill The Boot” fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. “With the public’s help we were able to raise $9,376.25 plus an additional $1,000 from Dennis Van Gorkom and Corporate Farmer for a grand total of $10,376.25,” the organization said in a statement.
Funds raised by affiliates of the International Association of Firefighters’ “Fill The Boot” campaigns across the US and Canada have donated nearly $450 million to MDA since 1954. These funds help contribute to the organization’s worldwide research program. Today, through current clinical trials, there is hope that new lifesaving treatments and discoveries are on the horizon for many of the disorders MDA is dedicated to defeating, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Darn Union workers, up to no good again.
Volunteerism, the sign of a good community. Thanks folks!
