From Senator Tom Harkin –
“I have watched Syria’s civil war – a war that has resulted in the death of nearly 100,000 people – unfold with horror. The escalation of this war through the use of chemical weapons against civilians is an affront to human values and of international law. It should be condemned and addressed by the international community as a whole.
“I recognize the challenges of taking this matter to the United Nations, but if international norms are being broken, then the international community must respond in concert. Until our country makes a good faith effort to rally this community, I am, like most Americans, hesitant to commit the United States alone to the task of responding to Syria’s civil war.”
