MASON CITY –

The Fourth Annual St. Jude Benefit Ride, Southern Cruisers Cruisin’ For A Cure, was held Saturday, June 16th.

St. Jude’s unique mission is to find cures for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases through research and treatment. And no family ever pays St. Jude for anything.

According to St. Jude’s website, “St. Jude is unlike any other pediatric treatment and research facility. Discoveries made here have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. With research and patient care under one roof, St. Jude is where some of today’s most gifted researchers are able to do science more quickly.”

All makes and models of motorcycles were welcome to join in the ride and the fun of cruisin’ around North Iowa to raise money for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Registration took place at Harley Davidson of Mason City starting at 9:30 a.m. Tickets were $20 per rider, with all proceeds going to St. Jude. A free lunch and T-shirt was provided by Harley Davidson at 706 South Federal Ave.

“It’s for a great cause,” said Mike True. “We registered early, with the threat of rain, we didn’t know if it would be postponed. We told them that even if we didn’t ride, we wanted them to keep the money.”

Kandi True, Mike’s wife, said, “I was so happy that it didn’t rain and we got to ride. It’s our first year for the St. Jude Benefit Ride. I can’t imagine what the parents of some of these children go through, it has to be so tough. The money goes to help find a cure, so we’re happy to give.”

With a Mason City Police Officer leading the Pack, the ride began at 12:30. Their sponsoring ride stops were DT’s Roadhouse in Dumont, Stinky’s Bar & Grill in Aplington, Pakoda’s Steakhouse in Hampton and the ride ended at the O.P. in Clear Lake where there were drawings for door prizes.

Sponsored companies were Phelp’s Implement-Eugene & Mary Sukup from Sheffield, B-L Repair/Trikes Plus from Sheffield, Mason City Power Sports, JT Machine & Tool of Hampton, Krukow Real Estate of Hampton, Johnson’s Tiling of Aredale, Rieken Farms of Hampton and H&S Backhoe of Hampton.
