Waterloo Police are investigating a fatality that occurred in the early morning hours today in the area of Washington Street and West Mullan Avenue. Shortly after 4 am Monday, April 9, 2012, a Waterloo Patrol Officer was on routine patrol and stopped to investigate some items in the roadway on Washington Street at West Mullan Ave. The Officer exited his vehicle and while checking the area located the body of a white female lying on the side of the roadway.
The Officer requested an ambulance and was checking the victim’s vital signs when Waterloo Fire Rescue arrived. The victim was not responding and did not have any signs of life. A Medical Examiner arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
The victim has been identified as 59 year old Becky Lawless of 1544 Patton Avenue, Waterloo.
This is being investigated as a motor vehicle fatality involving a pedestrian. At this time the Police have not been able to locate any witnesses to this incident and no one has come forward. The Waterloo Police Department is asking for help investigating this incident. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 10, 2012 by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny, Iowa to determine the cause of death.
