Royce White Named Basketball Times’ National Newcomer of the Year

AMES, Iowa- Iowa State’s Royce White added another national award to his already outstanding resume this week, picking up National Newcomer of the Year honors by the Basketball Times.

A native of Minneapolis, Minn., White recorded one of the best seasons in Iowa State basketball history in his first and only collegiate basketball campaign in 2011-12. The honorable mention All-American ranked in the top-100 nationally in rebounding (34th- 9.3), field goal percentage (36th- 53.4) and assists (57th- 5.0). He also led the Cyclones in scoring (13.4), steals (1.1) and blocks (0.9).

White, who announced on March 21 he will enter his name for the NBA Draft, was second in the Big 12 in double-doubles with 11. The point-forward helped the Cyclones earn their first NCAA Tournament berth since 2005 this past year. He averaged 19.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in two NCAA Championship games.

White joins former Cyclone All-American Jamaal Tinsley as winners of the national newcomer of the year award. Tinsley received the honor in 2000.
