Bill introduced that would raise auto liability insurance minimum

DES MOINES – A bill was introduced Friday in the Iowa House of Representatives  that increases the amounts necessary to provide proof of financial responsibility to respond in damages for liability arising out of the ownership, maintenance, or use of a motor vehicle by 50 percent.

The bill is applicable to motor vehicle accidents occurring on or after January 1, 2013.

The bill was introduced by Representative Jim Van Engelenhoven.

If this bill is to help cover the costs of uninsured motorists, add more teeth to the bill. Make it impossible to renew your car license plates if you don’t have insurance. I’m sure that it would cut my car insurance bill down. If the government can force mandatory health ins, then why not auto ins.

Here we go again. The people elected to represent us taking care of their special interest at our expense. Put this increase along with the proposed gasoline tax increase and the people on fixed incomes suffer but these people don’t give a damn. Is this to cover the uninsured drver’s I bet it is. If they are a problem, arrest them and get them off the roads. They are driving illegally anyway.

Just what I can’t afford. Times are tough for my family and now this.
