MASON CITY, I.A., August 2, 2011 ñ United Way of North Central Iowa has collected nearly 200 pairs of shoes from local donors. Their goal of 500 pairs is still in sight, but they need more support. Mercy Medical Center North Iowa just announced they would be running a workplace campaign, communicating the shoe drive to all employees with hopes of generating a substantial contribution to the shoe drive program. Principal Financial ran a workplace campaign last week and was the first donation station to fill up – with over 50 pairs of shoes donated from PFG employees.
From now until Monday August 8, United Way, along with its corporate sponsors, is holding a Shoe Drive to benefit area kids returning to school in the fall. New to gently used athletic shoes in all sizes will be accepted. Shoes will be distributed at the Annual United Way Kick-Off event on Thursday, August 18 at Music Man Square. Children from all over north central Iowa are eligible to redeem shoes.

The shoes collected in the United Way Shoe Drive will be given to children in grades K-12. The shoes will be distributed at the United Way of North Central Iowa HEAD TO TOE KICKOFF EVENT on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Music Man Square, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
