Hosted by Clear Lake Yacht Club, The 2011 Youth Regatta Comes to an End

One hundred boats came to Clear Lake for The Inland Lake Yachting Association X Championships that started Thursday. There was only one race on Thursday and two on Friday.

Saturday afternoon, after three races that started around 9:00 am, the Regatta came to an end. The last of the boats were on their way in and the Award Ceremony was to begin.

One of the last X Boats to come in was M20, named X Factor, race team of Corbin Burdick, age 14, and Sam Sigel, age 13. The parents were on hand to give the boys any assistance that they needed. They were proud of boys, “They’d love to get their picture taken.” Unfortunately, they didn’t win a trophy, but were able to provide a smile for the camera. The team is from Lake Minnetonka and have been sailing for seven to eight years. Mrs. Burdick says, “Most of their races are in Wisconson, but also in Minnesota and Iowa. Ages are up to 16 years old and, not too sure of the beginning age, I guess old enough to be able to handle the boat.” In between answering questions, she was right there helping get the boat out of the water and onto the trailer.

The Clear Lake Yacht Club was founded in 1935 to promote pleasure and competitive sailing, for all ages. The club offers schooling, competition, and enjoyment. The Yacht Club organizes several sailing fleets, Optomists, X, MC, C, E, Cougars and Hobie Cats, giving sailors ample opportunities to compete and test their skills. There are scheduled races every weekend from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
