More Than $200,000 to Iowa Nursing Schools

WASHINGTON ñ Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded three grants totaling $205,758 to Iowa colleges.
|WASHINGTON ñ Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded three grants totaling $205,758 to Iowa colleges.

The funds will be distributed through the Nurse Faculty Loan Program. They are not earmarks determined by Congress. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the Nurse Faculty Loan Program provides funds to eligible schools that offer advanced education nursing programs that prepare graduates to serve as faculty in a school of nursing.

The Department of Health and Human Services will distribute the money as shown below.

ï Clarke College in Dubuque will receive $56,485
ï The University of Iowa in Iowa City will receive $131,540
ï Allen College in Waterloo will receive $17,733

Each year, local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
