KEARNEY, Neb. ñ The Iowa State volleyball team defeated Nebraska-Kearney, 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 32-30), fell to Kansas State, 2-1 (25-20, 17-25, 23-25) and split two sets with Colorado State (20-25, 25-18) before play ended with the Cyclones leading 20-14 in the third set. The Cyclones are 3-3-1 in spring action.
Playing in front of her home crowd, Kearney native Kelsey Petersen dominated at the net for Iowa State with 10 solo blocks on the day, including nine against UN-Kearney. Petersen she finished the event with 14 kills and one block assist in addition to her 10 solo blocks.
Redshirt freshman Hannah Willms continued her spring tear, posting a team-high 29 kills and leading the team against UN-Kearney with 15. Willms’ 27 digs was tops for Iowa State and Kristen Hahn added 26.
Sophomore Tenisha Matlock collected over 20 kills in the tournament with 24, posting double-digit kills against both Kansas State (10) and Colorado State (12). Matlock has 58 kills in seven matches this spring.
The Cyclones will conclude their spring schedule next Saturday, April 16, against the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Lincoln, Neb. First serve is set for 7 p.m. CDT at the NU Coliseum.
