A Mason City man fled Mason City police officers yesterday while driving on North Penn. On March 24th, a marked Mason City police department squad car attempted to stop a vehicle. The driver, later identified as Brian Burkett, age 31 of Mason City, Iowa would not yield to the officer. A short vehicle pursuit started in the 00 block of N. Penn. Ave. Officers were able to stop the vehicle at the intersection of 1st N.W. and North Washington Ave. Burkett was taken into custody without incident. There were no injuries or property damage sustained during the pursuit.
Burkett was transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail where he was held on the following charges: defective muffler (simple misdemeanor); driving while suspended (simple misdemeanor); operating while intoxicated 2nd offense (aggravated misdemeanor); eluding (serious misdemeanor); possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor); and possession of a controlled substance, a class “d” felony for six prior convictions.
Burkett is being held at the Cerro Gordo County Jail on a $5,000 bond. Maximum punishment is up to five years in jail or a $7,500 fine.|
