MASON CITY – It was a tough night for a Mason City woman who allegedly suffered a beating at the hands of her boyfriend as she held her baby and then took her wallet which turned up lost.
Mason City police were summoned to the 300 block of 2nd Street NW Saturday night at about 10:15 PM for a report of a fight. Police arrived at the scene, and then called for more backup. A woman was in front of a house, crying, surrounded by others.
Police took a man, 33-year-old Manuel Trevino Hernandez, into custody and put him in the back of a squad car while officers took statements from everyone in front of the house where the fight was taking place. Soon, officers were knocking on neighboring doors, taking their statements as well and asking questions.
Police said a female victim had a wallet that was lost during a fight with Hernandez. Bystanders said that he had grabbed the woman, who was holding a baby, and began to beat her.
“He was, like, punching her in the back of the head, over and over,” a man at the scene told NIT. “It was crazy. I took the baby and ran in the house.”
Another woman told NIT that “They have been drinking all day long.”
Police searched the area for the wallet but did not appear to locate it.
Hernandez was taken to jail and charged with serious domestic assault, child endangerment and aggravated public intoxication.

Wow what a tough guy beating a women. Good thing she was holding a baby or he wouldn’t have had the guts to try it.
This headline makes it sound like he used a baby to beat her.
They should just bulldoze the center of town.
Sounds like a BLUE zone to me.
