ROCKWELL, IOWA – Law enforcement and other officials responded to what appeared to be a car-train collision Thursday morning west of Rockwell.
According to an NIT reader at the scene, the accident took place Thursday morning on 150th Street west of Rockwell, Iowa, at a railroad crossing. A white Buick sustained rear passenger-side damage and was in a ditch. Cerro Gordo sheriff’s deputies were at the scene and railroad officials. They were taking pictures. Traffic was backed up somewhat at the location.
“Train was stopped like it had hit it… now it’s moving… cops are on the scene,” a person at the scene told NIT. “Looks like it clipped the rear of the car. Railroad officials were there along with sheriff.”
No ambulance was at the scene.
Update from the sheriff’s office:
Tracy Ingham 48, of Swaledale was traveling eastbound on County Road B-60 (150th Street) just east of Olive Ave. A train operated by Union Pacific Railroad was traveling northbound. Ms. Ingham failed to stop for the railroad crossing where both lights and cross arm were being used. The front of the train struck the rear of the 2000 Buick Lesabre that Ms. Ingham was operating, sending the vehicle into the south ditch. Ms. Ingham did not substain any injuries, the vehicle was a total loss. Ms. Ingham was cited for failure to stop at the railroad crossing.
Tracy’s daughter is blaming allergies and sneezing on this accident. No one in this family ever takes responsibility for ANYTHING. I’m sorry to the poor train employee that might have had a heart attack trying to not hit her car.
