MASON CITY – A Mason City woman who police accused of stealing pills and abusing dependent adults as well as domestic assault is facing the revocation of her probation.
Cynthia Jo Ruiter, age 34, was arrested and charged by Mason City police last April with wanton neglect of a resident of a health care facility, dependent adult abuse, and possession of a controlled substance, all serious misdemeanors. She was accused of stealing the pills of a resident at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
In July, Ruiter was able to negotiate a plea deal in which the charge of wanton neglect of a dependent person in a health care facility was dismissed, the charge of dependent abuse was deferred and she was given a year of probation and fined $315.00, and the charge of possession of a controlled substance was deferred and she was given a year of probation and fined another $315.00.
Then in July, Ruiter was again arrested by Mason City police and charged with domestic abuse. She pleaded guilty in October to assault and was ordered to pay $275.25 in fines and court fees.
Ruiter is now in the Cerro Gordo County Jail charged with violating her probation. She will face a hearing on December 31.
