Former Hampton doctor turns himself into police

HAMPTON – A Hampton man who surrendered his medical license in November after pleading guilty to a charge of sexual exploitation turned himself in to police Thursday evening after being accused of following one of his victims.

Hampton Police Chief Robert Schaefer confirmed Friday that Brian J. Hansen “turned himself in at the Hampton Police Department. The charge was violation of probation.”  A probation violation report was sent to the court on December 10th from a Mason City probation office.  A warrant was issued for Hansen’s arrest on December 12th.

According to a KLMJ radio report, Hansen had followed one of his victims into the Casey’s General Store in Hampton and had “stood next to her and gave her a dirty look.”  A call to the Casey’s General Store Friday confirmed that there was an incident at the store, and that video surveillance cameras were being reviewed.

Hansen posted bond Thursday and was released.

A probation revocation hearing for Hansen has been set for January 7th in Franklin County District Court.

In a report released in November, the Iowa Board of Medicine took disciplinary action against Brian J. Hansen, who was charged this year with multiple counts of sex crimes he allegedly committed while working as a doctor in Hampton at Franklin General Hospital.  Hansen soon thereafter plead guilty to one count of sexual exploitation, a class D felony.

Hansen, who still lives in Hampton, was then sentenced to prison for five years, but that term was suspended.  He was ordered to pay court costs and a $7,500 fine.  Hansen registered as an Iowa sex offender.  He still owes Iowa courts $11,524.10 in court fees and costs.
