MASON CITY – A skateboarding qualifying event for the First Annual All Iowa Throwdown was held this past Saturday, June 23, in Mason City. The event was organized by the Iowa Skateboarding Association. The Iowa Skateboarding Association works with community leaders and local business owners to organize skateboarding events and to promote the continued construction of skate parks, skate plazas, and skate-friendly spots in Iowa communities.
There were three age divisions and a game of SKATE was played.
The top two individuals in the three age division were to move on to a final competition where they would compete against winners from other Iowa cities.
There were quite a few competitors and skating enthusiasts at the park to observe and try out their skills. There beginners and some very skilled skateboarders.
Jason Surratt (pictured, writing) founded the Iowa Skateboarding Association and kept score. “This is our first annual event,” he said. See his interview below.
The results were posted to the Facebook page of the Iowa Skateboarding Association:
Blain Holzerland – 1st place 12 and under
Dalton McMurray – 2nd place 12 and under
Logan Forburger – 3rd place 12 and under (pictured)
Cooper Robinson – 1st place 13-17
Tanner Boedecker – 2nd place 13-17
Cody Reiher – 3rd place 13-17
John Paul – 1st place 18 and over

Skateboarders can still compete in the qualifiers in Iowa City (July 7th) and Ames (July 14th) as long as that skater did not place 1st or 2nd in the Mason City or Cedar Falls qualifiers.
