Harkin Releases Updated Statement on Syria

Tom Harkin
Tom Harkin

From Senator Tom Harkin –

“I have watched Syria’s civil war – a war that has resulted in the death of nearly 100,000 people – unfold with horror.  The escalation of this war through the use of chemical weapons against civilians is an affront to human values and of international law.  It should be condemned and addressed by the international community as a whole.

“I recognize the challenges of taking this matter to the United Nations, but if international norms are being broken, then the international community must respond in concert.  Until our country makes a good faith effort to rally this community, I am, like most Americans, hesitant to commit the United States alone to the task of responding to Syria’s civil war.”

Senator Harkin, you’re still a hero of mine.

Having said this, I will now proclaim that if we get involved in this war, other than via a humanitarian effort, I will renounce Obama and no longer support him.

It’s time for us to STAY OUT of the Middle East’s wars. Peace is NOT going to happen there. How arrogant are we, that we actually think we can solve their problems by kicking in a few billion dollars and (not to mention, of course) a few thousand lives?

Do I feel horrible about the suffering that’s going on? Of course! I hate it! But we can’t be suckered into these wars anymore!

Let’s not let it happen!

Harkin is your “hero”?
Only now you realize Obama is decidedly not a leader in any sense of the word?
Did you miss the memos on fast & furious, AP, Rosen, IRS scandal, Benghazi, Obama care, the fed printing money, bailout of unions buried in auto bailout, immigration reform by fiat, etc., etc.?

This is the first thing that Harkin has said in a long time that I agree with. Good for you Mr. Harkin!
