IOWA CITY – Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz said this week that his team had “turned the page” on the loss last week to Northern Illinois and is preparing for Saturday’s home game against Missouri State.

“It was a tough loss,” Ferentz said about the loss to NIU.  “We turned the page on it on Sunday and we are moving on now and getting ready for Missouri State.”

Ferentz is sticking with Jake Rudock at quarterback.

“I think for the most part, Jake really handled things well,” Ferentz said.  “His demeanor on the sideline was good; he was calm, confident.  The feedback that we got from him was really accurate.  You think they know what’s going on; you hope they do, and some guys give good feedback, some don’t, at all positions, but it was really good.”

It was just one game, and the first one of the year. Maybe we should wait and see what happens after a few games before we go after the coach. I watched the game and except for the mistake by Rudock it was a very close game. I am concerned that their attitudes will go down fast if they lose any more close ones.

Iowa just struggled on Saturday against Missouri State…. another FCS school who is in the same conference as UNI. Missouri State is a marginal FCS school and Iowa only won 28-14. It is going to be a long year for both Hawkeye and Cyclone fans.

@Ben-I think you may be right. I too watched the game and am a little concerned. I guess it is still kind of early to pass judgement yet.

It’s weird…A couple years ago we were worried we were going to lose Ferentz to the NFL. Now he can’t be beat a division II school. Are we having recruiting problems or coaching issues?

N. Illinois is a Division I school. Played in the Orange Bowl last year.

Didn’t realize that. So what’s UNI?

Iowa (and Northern Ill. for that matter) are in the FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) which is formerly Div 1A and si the highest level of college football. UNI is in the FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) which is formerly Div 1AA and is right below the FBS in terms of levels.

Obviously, the FCS schools can beat the FBS schools as seen last week but that would be the main difference. Hope that helps!

As an Iowa Alum and long time Kirk supporter. It is time for some new blood in the football program at Iowa. Adios Ferentz.
