MASON CITY – A wanted California sex offender was apprehended at the North Iowa Fairgrounds Wednesday morning.
John Louis Miehlich, 39, of Rio Linda, California, was arrested by Cerro Gordo County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday at 10:35 AM at 3700 4 St SW in Mason City.
Miehlich was wanted on a charge of lascivious acts with a child. Miehlich, according to a source, also has child pornography charges pending in Wyoming.
“We received information from the US Marshal’s Office that he (Miehlich) may in our area,” Sheriff Kevin Pals told NIT.
Sheriff Pals could not confirm that Miehlich worked for the carnival that was arriving and setting up this week at the fairgrounds.
“Was he working at the carnival?” Sheriff Pals was asked. “Not for sure,” the sheriff stated. “I checked his booking…no employment listed.”
SUBJECT IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.

Sheriff Pals, you should certainly have been able to quickly determine whether this predator was employed by the carnival. It’s obvious you didn’t try.
I don’t know how you can come to that conclusion by reading that story unless you have an axe to grind with the sheriff and if that’s the case your opinion doesn’t mean much.
No axe to grind. Just wondering why the sheriff didn’t ask the people who own the Evans Carnival? I believe they would know who was on their payroll. I do agree it doesn’t matter who the predator worked for. The main thing is, he was caught.
Maybe the sheriff was asked these questions before he finished his investigation or maybe he already knew but since there was an ongoing investigation he couldn’t say. Could have been quite a few reasons why he said he didn’t know if he worked for the carnival.

Why does it matter where he worked…..He’s in jail now…where did you think the sheriff would get his work history from Just My Opinion….I’m sure the carnival keeps excellent records on their employees…..NOT. And those upstanding citizens from the carnival are going to readily admit that they had hired a pedophile to work for them….NOT.
Unless one performs a background check, how is one to know who is being hired has a criminal record? Background checks for low paying jobs, with all the turn over, do not pay. One would spend more time with the paperwork alone.
No one walks around with a Scarlett Letter on their clothes, so exactly how is an employer supposed to know otherwise?
You just want to go negative it seems!! Employment is checked at booking. If no employment was listed — why would the Sheriff continue to investigate. If that happened with every situation where no employment is listed– deputies would spend all day on the computer or phone, rather than out serving and protecting the citizents….
