DES MOINES – The Iowa Board of Medicine has initiated disciplinary proceedings against a Grundy Center Doctor for drug violations and other alleged indiscretions.
According to records, Frank L. Lamp, a 65 year-old doctor who practices family medicine in Grundy Center had formal disciplinary charges filed against him on November 15th, 2012. Lamp faces a total of nine serious-misdemeanor charges and could face time in jail.
Lamp has previously had his medical license suspended in 1997 due to substance abuse. The board re-instated Lamp in 2000 and put him on probation for 5 years. Then, in 2005, the the board terminated the probation.
Then, in April of 2012, Lamp was charged with 9 counts of Unlawfully Operating a Substance Abuse Program Without a License, serious misdemeanor, after he repeatedly wrote prescriptions for for methadone for three patients with known substance abuse histories. The criminal charges are still pending.
On November 15, 2012, the board again charged Lamp after he prescribed controlled substances including methadone to patients with known substance abuse histories.
The board also charged Lamp after he performed an inappropriate/unnecessary physical examination on a young female patient in his clinic in August of 2011.
Lamp faces a hearing in February of 2013. He has plead not guilty to all the charges. The matter may be resolved by settlement, documents say.
According to a clinic’s website, Lamp is a graduate of Oregon Health Sciences University and did his residency in family practice in Mason City. He has practiced in Grundy Center since 1991.
