From Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board –
MASON CITY – The ROW Vegetation Management staff of the Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board will be conducting prescribed burns in county road right of ways during the next few months. Prescribed burns are an effective resource management tool utilized to discourage the growth of weeds and woody vegetation, while promoting the growth of desired native vegetation in prairie restoration sites. All staff members are certified in wildland firefighting and take all necessary safety precautions to minimize any risks associated with a prescribed fire. Please use caution when approaching a burn site as staff members and equipment may be near the traveled portion of the road.
@Matt-thank you
Matt-I did a post on this article this morning. Did it get lost in the shuffle? I see that as a problem with the moderation. It just piles up until you get to it and then becomes hard to manage or lose. I think that is just making a lot of extra work for you.
I found them both and got them approved, thanks for pointing out.
I don’t understand why they have to do this. Leave it for cover for the wildlife and the longer vegatation will hold the snow and moisture. I could see maybe doingthis every 5 years or so but not every year. Kind of a waste of money in my opinion.
That should be great for wildlife especially pheasants –
A complete waste of money and destruction of winter cover for wildlife.
