The U.S. Supreme Court handed down its health care ruling today, upholding the core of President Obama’s new health care law as constitutional. The decision already has sparked endless speculation and analysis, and I have no doubt that it will go down as one of the most closely analyzed rulings in the history of the Supreme Court.

While the Supreme Court has the duty to determine the constitutionality of the health care law, it does not have the authority to determine if it is good or bad policy for hardworking Americans. Thankfully, it is still the American people who ultimately have the power and the right to make that final judgment.
In that spirit, I want to hear your thoughts. In our representative democracy, government leaders can’t do their jobs unless they listen to those they represent. So please, read the ruling and tell me what you think.
As you may know, I opposed and voted against the health care law because I believe that it is bad policy that ignored the voices of the people. I am working towards replacing it with measures that truly will lower health care costs for hardworking taxpayers. I have authored a legislative solution made up of better ideas that offer better solutions that will produce the best results for everyone. My patient-centered approach empowers the American people, not Washington bureaucrats, to choose the best health care plan for themselves, and it puts seniors in control of their health care, not the government. It would provide affordable coverage for those with pre-existing conditions by fully funding special insurance pools and would replace the health care law’s mandates with real competition to bring down insurance rates. It also would prevent insurers from unjustly canceling policies, and it would eliminate annual and lifetime limits. My legislation also would allow dependents to remain on their parents’ policies until the age of 26.
As we move forward, I continue to stand ready to work with anyone, regardless of political affiliation, who is willing to enact real solutions for the benefit of the American people.
Nice try CHARLIE but it just isn’t true. GOP attempts to “add” to the Democrat health care act fell on deaf ears…and your party pushed through its bill…and, of course, did not receive one GOP vote.
You’re probably one of those attempting to sell the uneducated on the idea that the law doesn’t “tax” but is a penalty…your side argued before the Supreme Court that it is a tax and the majority opinion called it a tsx.
To that Peter guy. I was a Democrat forever. In 2009 after the financials got so bad I started wondering what was going on with everything. I actually put some work into reading tons from both sides. I had a Democratic viewpoint and I was shocked and depressed when I educated myself. Corruption is rampant and special interests rule from BOTH political sides. The Democrat party I knew and loved has been hijacked by progressives and if you did enough reading you would see that. They have some really scary ideas about controlling the populace. When you defend something that is no longer true (the way the party used to be) you are helping with the deceit. Did you read Throw Them All Out? How about The Shadow Party? Even if 1/10th of this stuff is true we are all in deep trouble and need some ethical people to step forward. Stop with the Dems vs Rep stuff, it’s really stupid and a waste of time. I used to be you and now that I am more informed I see how foolish I was to blindly follow a party line that I really knew nothing about. An informed citizenry is what will keep this country strong. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has been tracking House Republicans who try to take credit for provisions in the economic stimulus or 2009 omnibus spending bill, even after voting against both measures.
The latest addition to the “House Republicans’ Hypocrisy Hall of Fame” is Representative Tom Latham of Iowa’s fourth district. He has been sending out press releases touting earmarks he inserted in the 2009 omnibus spending bill, without mentioning that he didn’t support the bill on the House floor. This is from the DCCC’s press release of March 12:
In a striking example of hypocrisy, after voting against the recently enacted FY 2009 Omnibus Appropriations, Congressman Tom Latham is taking credit for millions of dollars included in the legislation that will help local community colleges, health care clinics, and renewable energy producers in Iowa ‘s 4th Congressional District.
“Congressman Latham keeps telling people he `secured’ millions of dollars in funding for Iowa, but the truth is he voted against these investments,” said Gabby Adler, the Midwestern Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Congressman Latham can’t hide from his voting record, no matter how hard he tries. Counter to what Congressman Latham would have you believe, these millions of dollars aren’t coming to Iowa because of his hard work, these investments are being made in spite of Congressman Latham’s efforts to defeat this bill and the funding for Iowa.”
In every single press release sent out by Congressman Latham announcing investments for Iowa included in the FY 2009 Appropriations, he not only hid the fact he voted against the legislation but he led people to believe he championed its passage. One release read Congressman Latham “once again this past week demonstrated his commitment to community colleges,” another one discussed his role as a “long-time supporter” of new health care technologies. In a third release, Congressman Latham even referred to his support of Iowa’s renewable energy industry as “steadfast” despite his vote against $1.4 million for a cutting edge wind energy project in Iowa.

Your party never bothered to offer a viable alternative during the debate on the Affordable Healthcare Act. The Repubs were not the least bit interested in improving the healthcare system in this country. Your answer to the whole problem was to allow “junk” insurance to be sold across state lines, effectively neutering the office of the state insurance commissioner. (Whatever happened to the “States’ Rights” mantra that you’re always espousing.) Your party was hoping that the Act would be defeated in congress or, at the very least, eventually be overturned by SCOTUS. And now the TPers are throwing Justice Roberts under the bus. Interesting how the political parties can be so wrong about their “friends” on the court.
