BOONE – The NIACC softball team dropped a 14-2 decision to Iowa Central in five innings Friday in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XI-A tournament.
Fourth-seeded Iowa Central scored seven runs in the first inning, plated four runs in the second inning and pushed across three runs in the fourth inning.
Seventh-seed NIACC scored single runs in the fourth and fifth inning.
NIACC’s Hailey Worman hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. The home run was Worman’s seventh this season and 19th of her career, which ranks third on NIACC’s career home run list.
The Trojans also collected a double from Shaye Theobald and singles from Sydney Toman and Molly McGuire.
NIACC (3-34) faces Iowa Central in an elimination game at noon on Saturday. Top-seed DMACC topped Iowa Central 4-1 in the second game at the regional tournament on Friday.
