MASON CITY – NIACC’s Quentrevion Campbell was selected as the ICCAC wrestler of the week for the week of Jan. 24-31.
Campbell, who is unranked at 141 pounds, pinned Iowa Western’s fifth-ranked Creighton Baughman in 2:00 in a dual meet in Council Bluffs on Feb. 2.
It is the fourth time this season a NIACC wrestler has won the ICCAC weekly award. The Trojans’ Christian Minto won the award twice (for weeks of Dec. 6-12 and Jan. 24-30) and Jose Valdez was the weekly award winner for the week of Jan. 3-9.
Campbell is 8-0 this season with three pins, one technical fall and three major decisions.
No. 7 NIACC wraps up its regular season with a dual meet at No. 16 RCTC. The dual meet starts at 6 p.m. in Rochester, Minn.
After the dual against RCTC, the Trojans will compete in the NJCAA North Central District meet in Centerville on Sunday.
Meanwhile, NIACC freshman guard Audrey Martinez-Stewart was selected as the ICCAC Division II women’s basketball player of the week for the week of Jan. 31-Feb. 6.
It is the fourth time this season that a NIACC women’s basketball player has garnered the weekly award.
NIACC’s Jackie Pippett earned the weekly honor for the week of Jan. 3-9. NIACC’s Ziyannah Conner earned the honor for the week of Nov. 29-Dec. 5 and Alyssa Hames was the weekly winner for the week of Dec. 6-12.
In NIACC’s upset win over then No. 6 Iowa Western last week, Martinez-Stewart scored 11 points with six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
In the Trojans’ win over Ellsworth, Martinez-Stewart scored 10 points with six steals, three rebounds and one assist.
Martinez-Stewart averages 12.4 points per game with 103 rebounds, 68 assists and 60 steals.
NIACC (15-8 overall, 6-8 in the ICCAC) returns to action Tuesday at Marshalltown CC in an ICCAC contest. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
