WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Trump Administration this week announced “a return to the rule of law and the rescission of previous guidance documents” that gives freedom back to prosecutors to crack down on illegal marijuana activities
The Department of Justice on Thursday made the announcement. The agency issued a memo on federal marijuana enforcement policy announcing a return to the rule of law and the rescission of previous guidance documents. Since the passage of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) in 1970, Congress has generally prohibited the cultivation, distribution, and possession of marijuana – but some legalization is taking place in some state, most notably California just this year.
In the memorandum, Attorney General Jeff Sessions directs all U.S. Attorneys to enforce the laws enacted by Congress and to follow well-established principles when pursuing prosecutions related to marijuana activities. This return to the rule of law is also a return of trust and local control to federal prosecutors who know where and how to deploy Justice Department resources most effectively to reduce violent crime, stem the tide of the drug crisis, and dismantle criminal gangs.
“It is the mission of the Department of Justice to enforce the laws of the United States, and the previous issuance of guidance undermines the rule of law and the ability of our local, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement partners to carry out this mission,” said Attorney General Jeff Sessions. “Therefore, today’s memo on federal marijuana enforcement simply directs all U.S. Attorneys to use previously established prosecutorial principles that provide them all the necessary tools to disrupt criminal organizations, tackle the growing drug crisis, and thwart violent crime across our country.”

I know hundreds of people who have been affected by drugs. I also know hundreds who have been affected by drug abuse. You don’t seem to understand the difference.

It’s already happening in Colorado. The money they are making off pot is being used to cover more E.R. visit’s, homeless living on the streets, DUI’s are way up, crimes (robbery) has increased and worst of all the cartels have come in. The problems are just getting started there. Citizen safety should always be the first priority of government and they have dropped that for money.

I have never deleted a comment on this site. Anyone can ask for a comment to be deleted and NIT will look at the comment and make a decision as to its appropriateness. I have asked for maybe 3 or 4 comments to be deleted but not because the comment was trying to demean me or my views. I believe in the right to express ones views. I can’t speak for Nada but the prison donors are those companies who run the private prisons that Sessions wants to bring back into the game so that he has more space to lock up all the non-violent offenders he catches. What do you know? Finally back to following the rule of law as they should do. It is up to congress to change the law if they want. The DOJ should enforce existing law.
Sessions follows the law just like I do. What makes you liberals think you ca break the law without penalty. That is why our jails are full. If you don’t like the law change it. If you can’t change it, live with it or go to jail. Even a criminal liberal should be able to understand that.
