NIACC drops tournament opener, 10-2

BOONE – The NIACC softball team dropped a 10-2 six-inning decision to DMACC in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XI-A tournament Tuesday.

DMACC (42-9) scored three runs in the first inning, plated two more in the third frame, added three runs in the fifth and pushed across two more in the sixth inning.

DMACC advances to play Iowa Central in the championship round at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Iowa Central stopped Northeast CC 9-1 in six innings in its first-round contest.

NIACC (10-37) faces Northeast CC in an elimination game at noon on Wednesday.

In Tuesday’s game, Shelby Low hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning for NIACC.

NIACC’s Morgan Thesing-Ritter, Jenni King and Kodi Hillman all collected singles off Molly Jacobsen, who struck out six and walked one in six innings of work.

Hannah Dove started for the Lady Trojans and allowed five runs in three innings of work. Shayley Vesel pitched the final 2 2/3 innings allowing five runs.
