MASON CITY – A Mason City man accused of smashing a man through a window at a store in Southbridge mall during an altercation has been sent to prison.

On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2016, around 1:30 PM, a window was broken inside Southbridge Mall at a business named “Hoppy Go Lucky.” During a birthday party, 39-year-old James Lewis Whitehill. walked up to another man, and either grabbed him and or then pushed him backward into a large glass window. The window shattered.

Police later said that the damage estimate for the large window came back at $1,604.00.

The Mason City police department applied for an arrest warrant for 39-year-old James Lewis Whitehill and he was later rounded up and arrested. He was eventually charged with felony second-degree criminal mischief and assault while participating in a felony.

Whitehill ended up pleading guilty to both charges and was sentenced to concurrent 5-year prison terms with suspended fines.  He will have to pay $2,167.80 in court fees, costs and restitution.  He has been sent to the Oakdale Classification Center in Coralville for processing before his final destination to serve his prison sentence.

I agree with the other comments. I look at what a lot are sentenced with and are walking free with suspended sentences, not right.

There has to be more to this then they are telling. It is a stiff sentence for what he did when we have drug dealers walking with nothing but probation.

Doesn’t add up

Seems like there is much more to this story.
