Candlelight memorial for slain Mason City man to be held Friday night

MASON CITY – NorthIowaToday.com is told that mourners and friends of a man shot to death at Casey’s convenience store, 813 North Federal Avenue, will gather there Friday night at 9:30 near the shooting scene to remember the man.

Brandon Crawford was shot three times at Casey’s Tuesday afternoon and passed away en route to Mercy Hospital.

Police caught a man, Jamaal J. Leslie, 31, runing from the scene and arrested him. Leslie is being held on 1st degree murder charges.

People close to the situation tell NorthIowaToday.com that Crawford belonged to a rap group that performed at the Rose Bowl this past weekend. They also said Crawford was a “nice guy” who also practiced mixed martial arts in his spare time. They said he leaves behind a son in Detroit, Michigan.

Driving by the scene at Casey’s, there are candles and flowers and balloons there, as well as bottles of beverages lined up on the pavement that Crawford liked to enjoy. Late Thursday evening, there were several people standing around there, chatting.
