CEDAR RAPIDS – A man who witnesses saw stab a woman in a Marion, Iowa grocery store parking lot is in jail with a $1 million cash-only bond.
Nicholas John Luerkens of Cedar Rapids was seen by witnesses stabbing 29-year-old Lynnsey Donald on April 21 in a Marion, Iowa Hy-Vee store parking lot. She died from her injuries. According to published reports, Luerkens tried to stab himself to death immediately afterwards, but was caught and taken to a hospital.
Luerkens appeared in court Monday via video feed. He is charged with first degree murder and could face a life term in prison if convicted. He awaits a preliminary hearing on May 7.
