DES MOINES – The Iowa Senate on Tuesday passed a bill that would ban a procedure sometimes used by licensed therapists that would “convert” a child with homosexual tendencies into a “straight” person.

Conversion therapy has been used on minors in an attempt to change their sexual orientation from homosexual to heterosexual. The therapy, a Senator said during debate of the bill, has a history of electroshock, drugs, and abuse of children.

A bill banning this form of therapy narrowly passed the Iowa Senate Tuesday, by a vote of 26 Democrats to 24 Republicans.
