Melinda S. Hartman, 61, of Crystal Lake, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake. Burial will follow at Crystal Township Cemetery.
Due to the weather, the family has decided to cancel the visitation scheduled this evening. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
Melinda Sue Hartman, the daughter of Ronald and Marlene (Dolphin) Hartman, was born on August 18, 1964, in Britt. She grew up in Crystal Lake and attended school at Happy ARC in Garner. Melinda received an education certificate from Britt Community Schools and began working at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt. In December of 1988, she moved to Exceptional Opportunities’ Westside Apartments in Algona where she was employed at numerous business in both Algona and Burt. She took great pride in caring for her apartment, keeping it clean and tidy, and having it decorated with her own items. Melinda always looked forward to going to the Feed Mill Coffee Company in Algona with friends and having Saturday morning Coffee Club. She loved going to work and was employed by numerous businesses in Algona and Burt. Her passion was to color pictures and give them away as gifts. Every staff member, co-worker, and even the hospital nurses and aides received Melinda Hartman original artwork. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for others, and playing games on her tablet, completing find a word and jigsaw puzzles. For the past 37 years at Exceptional Opportunities Melinda brought warmth, dedication and kindness. She will be dearly missed but not forgotten.
She was a member of Crystal Lake United Methodist Church.
Melinda is survived by her brother, Rick Hartman of Albert Lea, MN; step-mother, Agnes Hartman of Crystal Lake; step-siblings, Cindy (Dennis) Rippentrop of Charles City, Julie (Keith) Jessen of Fertile, James Holtorf of Rush City, MN and Tim (Amy) Holtorf of Spokane, WA; nephews, Micah (Mikayla) Heimdal and Matthew Hartman; niece, Mandy Hartman; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ron Hartman; mother, Marlene Holtorf; and step-father, Alvin Holtorf.
