Clear Lake-Marlys Jean Pliley 91, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home, Rockwell, Iowa. A private family memorial service will be held in her honor.
Marlys was born on February 27, 1934, the daughter of Ray and Mary (Kissell) Thompson. On July 3, 1951, she was united in marriage to Robert Pliley; they were blessed with two children.
Marlys lived in Ventura for many years before moving to Clear Lake, Iowa, in 2017, making her home at Lake Plaza Apartments and cherished the friendships she made. She had a great love for animals, especially her beloved cat, Sisy. Among her favorite pastimes were playing Bingo and sharing coffee and conversation with her friends.
Her laughter and generosity will be deeply missed by many, especially by her children, Jeff (Nancy) Pliley, Diana (Ron) Dogotch; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, her sister, Mona McLaughlin and her brother, Dan Thompson. Marlys is preceded in death by her parents Ray and Mary Thompson and her husband of 66 years, Robert Pliley.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude and thanks to the staff at Rockwell Community Nursing Home and St. Croix Hospice for the love and care for Marlys.
