Duane Wilcox, 92, of Boone, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Following Duane’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be held Friday, January 16, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone, with Rev. Damian Peasley officiating. Visitation will start at 11:00 AM and continue until service time on Friday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family, for a future designation.

Duane was born April 15, 1933, in Spencer, Iowa, the son of Perry and Beatrice (Grigsby) Wilcox. He grew up in Boone and was an original member of the West Boone Gang.

On September 18, 1954, Duane was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Anderson in Boone. To this union were four children, Donald, Dennis, Doreen and Debra. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2004, and Barbara got to have her first wedding cake.

Duane started driving truck when he was 18 years old and had the handle of Daffy Duck or Double D. He drove for many companies and the last one being, Archway Cookies, and has enjoyed his retirement for the past 33 years. After retirement, he and Barbara served as campground hosts at the Pine Lake and Don Williams Campgrounds.

Duane enjoyed visiting casinos and also trying his luck at scratch tickets. He was a former member of the Eagles Lodge and was a massive dog lover and had plenty of four-legged companions throughout the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara in 2018; son-in-law, Mike Sawyer in 2018; two sisters, Gwen and Char; and his brother, Don.

Duane is survived by his four children, Donald (Betty) Wilcox, Dennis Wilcox, Doreen Sawyer, and Debra (Kurtis) Kruse; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Nicholson, Bobbi Jo Swain, Josh (Traci) Wilcox, Todd (Cara) Sawyer, Nick Sawyer, Blake Sawyer and companion Sara Ray; and Jessica (Kevin) Frey; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild to arrive in 2026; sister-in-law, Bonnie Hiatt; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone.
