Sharon Wagner, 79, of West Bend, passed away on January 9, 2026, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Graveside services are planned for a later date at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of West Bend. Sharon Susan Wagner, the daughter of Lewis and Edna (Sweeney) Flynn, was born on November 22, 1946, in Dearborn, Michigan. She graduated from Autauga County High School in 1965. Sharon attended the Providence School of Nursing. On April 21, 1967, Sharon enlisted in the Navy and began training to be a Nurse. Sharon met William Wagner while in the Navy, and they were married on November 24, 1967, in Milbourne, PA. Because of the drawdown, Sharon was discharged on December 22, 1967. She then obtained a law enforcement degree and began working as the first female officer in Juneau, Alaska. Sharon later worked as a security officer in Richmond, VA, as the first female police officer in Waterford, CT and then as a Sheriff’s deputy in Colorado Springs, CO.
Sharon enjoyed playing softball while in the Navy and while on the police force, BINGO, Crocheting, knitting and reading. She loved spending time with her family.
Left to cherish Sharon’s memory are her children, Heather (Jeff) Studer of West Bend, Natalie (Corey) Gerving of White Rock, NM, William (Sherri) Wagner of Ocoee, FL and Eric (Tanis) Wagner of Colorado Springs, CO; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and brothers, Edward Flynn of Colorado Springs, CO, Patrick Flynn of Prescott, AZ and Bob Flynn of Owosso, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Jason Flynn.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to local food banks, utility assistance programs or local libraries in her honor.
