March 22, 1959 – November 15, 2025

John Fitzsimmons, age 66, of Boone, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2025, at his home.

John was born March 22, 1959, in Ventura, California, the son of Glenn and Rosemary (Segebart) Fitzsimmons. He participated in Civil Reenactments with the Army of the Southwest, as their “Battle Artist”. John was a member of the Lincoln Highway Association and a true hotrodder at heart.

Lincoln Highway Johnny has taken that last big journey, somewhere only a vagabond road artist like him could go. Johnny had many journeys along these roads in this great country that he loved, detailing its characters and sights in his artwork and crafting stories for any pair of ears that might pull up a chair and stay for a tale or two.

While these journeys have now come to an end, his vision and legacy lives on in all of us who he inspired to see the world with an artist’s eye. As you pass a painted telephone pole or see a marker for the Lincoln Highway, as you drive by those shining spots of historical curiosity, and as you meet your own cast of characters in your own journeys, keep the vagabond road artist in mind. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll catch a glimpse of a weathered, paint-covered boot, or a pencil capturing your story in a steady hand, out there along the open road.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Rosemary, and his sister, Mary.

John is survived by his wife, Linnea; his children, Amber and Sean (Taylor) Fitzsimmons; and his sisters, Sandi and Patti.

A Celebration will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at 1006 6th Street in Boone.
