MASON CITY – A stolen car was located in Mason City Thursday night, and law enforcement gave chase as the driver refused to stop and his cohort leapt to freedom.
At about 7:25 PM on August 21, 2025, a Cerro Gordo county sheriffs deputy located a 2020 Chevrolet Trax, reported stolen on the same date from Marshalltown, Iowa, on North Monroe in Mason City. An attempted traffic stop of the vehicle led to a vehicle pursuit.
During the pursuit, a passenger jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot. The driver continued to flee but eventually stopped near the intersection of 5th Street NW and North Adams. The driver, 32-year-old Alexander Jordan Kew, formerly of Mason City and currently from Marshalltown, was arrested without further incident. Kew was charged with the following crimes:
– 2nd offense Eluding
– Theft 1st Degree
– Driving While Barred.
Kew (pictured at top) was transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail and held for bond. The passenger has not been located. The vehicle is being returned to the owner in Marshalltown.
