CLAYTON COUNTY, IOWA – An Iowa man standing along a rural road next to his parked UTV was struck and killed by a pickup driver, authorities say.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place on August 11, 2025. At 5:11 PM, one Glacier Roa in Clayton county, one mile south of Faucet Road, a 2021 Dodge 1500 Ram pickup driven by 56-year-old Perry Peterson of Manchester, Iowa, was driving southbound. At this time and location, two men were parked along the road with their UTV vehicles. 62-year-old Ricky Thurn of Edgewood, Iowa, was standing at the driver’s side door of his 2019 Polaris UTV when he was struck by the Dodge pickup and killed.
Also as a result of the collision, Peterson was injured and taken by helicopter to University of Iowa hospitals. James Bunting was the other man with a UTV at the crash site, and he was also hurt and taken by ambulance to a hospital. Also hurt and taken to a hospital by ambulance was 63-year-old Lori Bunting.
The collision remains under investigation.
