Mason City house fire displaces residents

MASON CITY – A fire at a Mason City home was quickly extinguished, but displaced the residents, the fire department says.

On July 17, 2025, at 10:06 AM, the Mason City Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire with attached garage at 160 15th Street NW. Fire crews arrived finding smoke coming from a breezeway that connected the house and the garage. The fire was quickly extinguished.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

No injuries were reported with the incident.

The residents are displaced from the house.

Records show the house is owned by Brittany Ruehlow.

The Mason City Fire Department remained on scene until 1:00 PM and were assisted by Mason City Police Department, Mason City Operations and Maintenance, and Alliant Energy.
