WASHINGTON, D.C. – Chinese students in America with ties to the communist party will have their visas “aggressively” revoked, the Trump Administration announced tonight.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio made the announcement, declaring “new visa policies put America first, not China.”

Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State

“Under President Trump’s leadership, the U.S. State Department will work with the Department of Homeland Security to aggressively revoke visas for Chinese students, including those with connections to the Chinese Communist Party or studying in critical fields,” Secretary Rubio said. “We will also revise visa criteria to enhance scrutiny of all future visa applications from the People’s Republic of China and Hong Kong.”

America and China are in a trade war, with each lobbing tariffs back and forth, both crippled with debt and pouring billions into their militaries. Part of this war is in technology, and American universities are home to thousands of eager Chinese students lapping up knowledge. While this is a boon to the college industry, companies around the world hire these graduates for high-end jobs. This inhospitable move underscores the icy tensions between the two largest economic powers on the planet.

Meanwhile, China announced it will grant a visa-free policy to nationals from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay on a trial basis from June 1, 2025 to May 31, 2026.
