CLEAR LAKE – A pair of elderly Minnesota motorcyclists collided Wednesday morning at a Clear Lake intersection and were thrown from their bikes, authorities say.

On May 28, 2025, at 9:05 AM, the Clear Lake Police and Fire Departments responded to a personal injury collision in the 1900 block of US Hwy 18. Two motorcycles traveling eastbound on US Highway 18 collided. Both drivers were thrown from their motorcycles and were transported to Mercy One in Mason City, by ambulance. One passenger was not injured.

Due to the severity of the injuries the Clear Lake Police Department requested assistance from the Iowa State Patrol in completing a technical accident investigation.

According to the Patrol, 80-year-old David Lee Landsteiner of Fairmont, Minnesota, was on his 2019 Harley-Davidson motorcycle as he began to stop for a red light at Highway 18 and N. 20th Street in Clear Lake Wednesday morning at 9:05 AM. A 2010 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by 81-year-old Gerald Albert Bohlsen of Fairmont collided with with Landsteiner’s motorcycle as Bohlsen failed to recognize it was stopping. Both drivers were thrown from their motorcycles and came to rest in the intersection.

The Patrol claims a passenger, 79-year-old Bonnie Landsteiner of Fairmont, Minnesota, was hurt in the collision as well.

The Clear Lake Police Department was also assisted by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
